Sometimes I need a citybike to ride to work, or when I don't want to drive my car. My trail mountain bike (Corratec X-Force) is not as good for it as a road bike, that's why I've decided to build a city bike using a road bike frame (ХВЗ "Kharkov bicycle factory" Start-Shosse).
I call it "non-fixed gear bike" cause I use freehub, singlespeed and one brake.
The idea was to build a bike as cheap as possible. Here are the components of my non-fixie:
frameset - ХВЗ (Kharkov bicycle factory) Start-Shosse 1973;
rims - some Alexrims;
tyres - some cheap Innova 622x25;
crankset - Shimano Sora 52T;
pedals - Wellgo B54 with big platform;
saddle - Bassano Selle;
handlebar - very heavy riser bar (490grams) need to replace asap;
grips - Funn;
chain - Shimano IG-51.
The weight of the whole bike is about 11.4kg (25.13lbs). Yeah, this is rather heavy, but it is 2.5kg lighter than my trail bike. This bike has rather heavy wheels, handlebar and steel seatpost. I will make the bike lighter one day.
Singlespeed is the most lightweight, cheap and reliable setup. 52T/21T is an ideal ratio for me. If there were no uphills in my city, I would prefer 52/19. I won't install fixed gear, cause I think I'l loose in bike control.
I've painted a bike using a simple blue spray paint. The paint coat is not as reliable as factory paint, but I don't care.
It is better to call it Blue Vintage Singlespeed Road Bike or Vintage Singlespeed Roadie
