Review: RaceFace Narrow Wide Chainring

Last winter I have bought Race Face Narrow Wide Chainring for my Trail Bike.  The idea was to through away front derailleur with shifter and chainrings, to decrease the weight of my bike. The weight of this chainring is less than 50 grams (0.11lbs).

I've been trail-riding with this chain ring for couple of months and can say some words about it.
Narrow/wide teeth really work. I don't need chain guide or front derailleur anymore. This ring keeps my chain in its place even with long cage Shimano XT rear derailleur. I've lost my chain only once with narrow wide chainring. As I'm not a professional racer, I can allow my chain to get off the ring couple times during a season. But if you participate in races and the result really matters, then you need a chain guide at least with upper cage, cause narrow wide chainring doesn't give you 100% guarantee.
34 teeth chainring is a great balance between speed and uphill power. I use standart 11-36 Shimano cassette, and it is really enough both for climbing and downhills for me.

My bike setup for the 2014 season with Race Face narrow wide chainring:
